Finance Manager

Experienced Finance Manager wanted to help build the capacity of a social enterprise transforming the maize value-chain in Rwanda.

About Kumwe Harvest:

Kumwe Harvest is a social enterprise aggregating and processing maize in Rwanda. Founded to eliminate the presence of aflatoxin in Rwanda’s maize value chain, Kumwe Harvest has developed a novel approach to maize aggregation. We transform the post-harvest process into a quick and mechanised operation, enabled through efficient logistics, the purchase of unshelled maize (on the cob) and mechanised grain processing (shelling and drying). The 'just-in-time' process prevents the growth of aflatoxin, enabling farmers to sell to high-value commercial markets, reduce their post-harvest expenses and losses, and ultimately increase their incomes by more than 60%.

With ambitious growth planned for the next three years, we are looking for a responsible and smart Finance Manager to join our innovative, high-performing and multi-cultural team.

About the role:

This is a new role, created in order to improve day-to-day financial management. The Finance Manager will own Kumwe’s day-to-day financial operations and lead a small Finance Team. Responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement robust grants and financial management mechanisms and communicate clear procedures to the Kumwe Harvest team;

  • Prepare budget forecasts, cash flow projections and detailed financial reports for internal and external audiences;

  • Manage payroll for Kumwe Harvest staff;

  • Hire and oversee the work of the Finance Team;

  • Prepare for Project and Company audits;

  • Lead weekly and monthly invoicing processes;

  • Manage all accounts payable.

You will be a member of the Management Team, reporting directly to the CEO and Directors.


  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and managing financial systems;

  • Experience overseeing, managing and reporting on large and complex project budgets;

  • A strong understanding of accepted accounting principles and processes;

  • Experience of preparing for audits;

  • Experience of grants management a bonus;

  • Fluent written and spoken English. Kinyarwanda, Swahili, and French a strong bonus;

  • Attention to detail and highly organised, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced start-up work environment;

  • Desire to take initiative and tackle challenges;

  • Ability to motivate and develop others.
