As a backbone to our sourcing and processing operations, Kumwe has developed in-house applications combined with world-class analytic software. Using this software, the Kumwe team is able to remotely access, edit and add business operations and financial data via mobile phones or laptops. Originally utilised to capture field data on farmers and truck movements, Kumwe has integrated the apps into every area of the business.
Through experience in logistics, freight, and agro-processing, we’ve gained first-hand experience with the informal labor market for industry. We have discovered that casual labor hire in Rwanda can be extremely disorganized, difficult, inefficient, and brings great disadvantages to both employers and employees. Hundreds of laborers living and working in unstable and arduous conditions and companies struggling to organize their labor and thus lose productivity and money.
Kumwe Lift aims to use technology to provide dignified, organized, and fair work opportunities for casual laborers while supplying accountable, well managed and reliable labor for Rwanda’s industrial sector. The system is currently being trailed by Kumwe Harvest before being brought to scale.
We partner with similar organisations to create long-lasting change in our sector. We are currently partnering with One Acre Fund to pick-up maize from farmers receiving inputs, using the same trucks to create efficiencies along the way.
